When the physical memory i.e RAM is full, the PC definitely requires some more memory to run the applications and hence it creates a virtual memory on the hard disk itself. The data is swapped and moved between the virtual memory and physical memory.
The data to be transferred depends on the application which requested the bus first. The instructions given below allow you to change the virtual memory settings and thereby increases the system speed.
1. Right click on "My computer" and go to "properties"
2. Then click on the "advanced system settings" in the left pane as shown in figure

3. It will open a "system properties window", in which you have to select "Advanced tab"
4. Now, click on the "settings" under "performance" section.
5. In this newly opened "performance options" window, click on "advanced"
6. Click on "change" in the "virtual memory" section
7. Uncheck "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives"
8. Now under Drive [Volume Label], select the drive which contains the paging file you want to change.
9. Click on Custom size option, type a new size in megabytes in the Initial Size (MB) and Maximum size (MB) box, click Set, and then click OK.
