Another setback for PlayBook

Blackberry PlayBook setbacks with the lower than expected sales. Research in Motion was forced to sell their tablet at lower costs. The company announced that it will write off its inventory of Playbook tablets. The sales of the tablet are not too good from the starting itself. "Given the low price of $200 from $500, RIM said it will have a pre-tax charge of $485 million as the tablet’s value goes down", as per Geeky Gadgets

A year ago, co-CEO Jim Balsillie said pent-up interest in the PlayBook was "really overwhelming". Companies are looking for an equivalent of the iPad of corporate use, he said. In March, Balsillie said "The launch of the PlayBook may well be the most significant development for RIM since the launch of the of the first BlackBerry device back in 1999." But now, things are not really as expected for RIM. However, RIM showed its courage by telling that they will be sticking to their first tablet and continue to develop it to its full potential.
