The Development of Wi-Fi Access

Over the past few years, the spread of Wi-Fi hotspots and the growing convenience of free Wi-Fi in public spaces has been taking place. Our expectations of ubiquitous internet access in our daily lives relies largely on the provision of wireless connection to an internet network provider outwith our own homes.
The term Wi-Fi was first used in a commercial sense in August 1999, and was initially voiced by the Interbrand Corporation, a global branding company.
It is an abbreviation of the phrase 'Wireless Fidelity', an evolution of the early 20th century usage of the term 'High Fidelity' or 'Hi-Fi'.
In today's digitally immersed society, Wireless Fidelity provides a highly useful and relied upon means of maintaining that all important internet connection. Whether for leisure or business purposes, the proliferation of Wi-Fi hotspots is a hugely significant development for online activity. Work can be done on the bus, e-mails can be checked in a café, and train times can be confirmed on the way to the station.
The extent of wireless connectivity in public places reaches from restaurants and cafés, to airports and train stations. It is now the case that the offer of free wireless internet access in hotels is as important as the offer of free tea and coffee in the bedroom.
Wi-Fi now represents one of the most powerful selling tools for hoteliers, with many promoting their wireless connection capabilities during the festive period, enabling visitors to enjoy their luxury christmas breaks without having to sacrifice internet connectivity, even during a stay away from home.
With the availability of Wi-Fi throughout various public spaces and commercial venues such as bars and restaurants, comes the further immersion of society into the online sphere, whose insatiable desire for internet access comes one step closer to finally being fulfilled. Still, it isn't half handy.
