Google competes with Amazon's Prime

Google is said to be in talks with shop retailers and shippers in creating delivery of goods offered in 24- 48 hours. According to WSJ, some of the retailers said that, Google has pitched this project up with Macy's Inc., Gap Inc.,and OfficeMax Inc. Google isn't ready to sell items directly to the customers, but plans it in such a manner, such that, the customers are redirected to the retailers site, with a new quick shipping service.
Under the proposed system, when shoppers place an order on an affiliate's website, Google's system will give them an option for same-day or possibly next-day delivery, said a person familiar with the matter.

The program that was initiated by Amazon's Prime was the customers have to pay $79 per year for activating fast shipping, with no additional charges after buying the product. This helped Amazon to increase its sales by 42% in the first nine months of the year. Sources said that Google is planning to pilot start this project in San Francisco Bay area in 2012.
