Yes, definitely a new innovation!! This is a new concept called One=Two, developed by Huang Kun, Meng Xun, He Ting & Liu Yuan. The concept is here. Suppose your electronic device is being supplied by two batteries. And if they are totally discharged, then you are helpless and you need to buy a new set of batteries. We generally throw off the used batteries when they are unable to supply the load,but there still exists a little charge in them which can be utilized.
By using spring batteries when two batteries get drained such that they are unable to power the electronic device, they can be compressed and combined into one battery slot. This allows you to drain every last drop of power from the older batteries before replacing with a new fully charged one. In this sense, only one new spring battery is to be bought to serve the purpose. This is a 2011 red dot design concept winning entry.

Actually, this concept is just an innovative one and doesn't solve any problems. Next point is, by looking at the design, we can come to a conclusion that these batteries doesn't store much charge and they must be more expensive than the normal ones of the same rating. The composition of these batteries is not yet disclosed by the manufacturers, we think that, the spring rods are made up of magnesium dioxide or graphite, even this is not sure, because, the mechanical toughness of magnesium dioxide or graphite to bent like spring was never seen before. There is not much to tell about internal working. This is just a DC battery, everyone knows what it does. It has both positive and negative polarities. Let us consider your TV remote. You generally use 2 batteries for it to work. Say, they are discharged completely and you have to replace them. With this spring batteries, you can combine the 2 batteries as one, as shown in figure and now, you just have to buy a single new spring battery.
